Library’s 3D Printer Visits The CityArts Factory

The MakerBot Replicator 2 3D Printer recently made a guest appearance at Toy Burst 2013 at Redefine Gallery at The City Arts Factory in downtown Orlando.  The printer was a big hit!  It was our first experience in introducing the 3D printer to artists and we enjoyed hearing their ideas about using 3D design and printing in their work.  As you can imagine, our 3D Design and Printing classes continue to be very popular here at the Orlando Public Library.  If you would like to see what all the fuss is about, come on in and take a class.   On Saturday, August 3, we have 3D Design and Printing Level 1 at 10 am and the Level 2 class will follow at 11.30am.

So come visit us at the Orlando Public Library!  We look forward to seeing you in class!

Library Staff Visit Human Resources Managers

This week, Orange County Library System staff members were pleased to be invited to make a presentation at the Greater Orlando Society for Human Resources Managers.  We enjoyed getting the word out about our wonderful resources, including MAYL book delivery, e-books from Overdrive and Freeding, Zinio e-magazines, Hoopla movies, music and audiobooks.  We also talked about our technology classes, including our newest offerings in 3D Design and Printing, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign.  Of course, we included technology classes for kids and teens and the wide variety of programming events here at the main library and our branches.

Technology classes this Saturday, July 20, at the Orlando Public Library, include our very popular classes in Basic Electronics using Snap Circuits at 2pm and Machines, Motion and Engineering using K’NEX at 4pm.

Come visit us!  We look forward to seeing you in class!

Job Seeker Classes at the Library

Library staff were pleased to host a booth at the Central Florida Employment Council Job Fair yesterday.  Staff members spoke with a total of 255 enthusiastic job seekers and many signed up for library cards.  The Orange County Library System is always pleased to attend this event and to have the opportunity to share information about our free resources that are so valuable to job seekers.  We like to let people know about our free technology classes in Microsoft Office, QuickBooks, Adobe Creative Software and HTML5.  We also offer a Job Seeker Course Track at many locations, which includes classes in Resume Writing, Improve your Job Interview Skills and Search and Apply for Jobs Using the Internet.

So check out our class offerings this month and build an impressive resume!  It’s an exciting time to be at the library and we look forward to seeing you in class!

Field Trip to UCF

Technology and Education staff members took a field trip last week to meet with students completing their Master’s Degree in Education with a concentration in STEM education.  We were happy to share information with them about our STEM resources, including our new classes in 3D Design and Printing and K’NEX building systems.  We brought several of our Snap Circuits—Basic Electronics Kits and UCF students seemed to have as much fun as our library students.  If you haven’t checked out our new STEM offerings, now’s your chance.  Take a look at our Events Calendar and come visit us at the Orlando Public Library, it’s an exciting time to be at the library!
